The existence of so-called birthstones has been common knowledge for centuries. It originates from different cultures and histories, and has since adapted to our modern way of celebrating traditions. Using birthstones is a perfect way to give jewelry an extra meaning and personal touch.
The origin of gemstones in relation to the months of the year goes back to biblical times. In the book of Exodus, Aaron wears a breastplate with twelve gemstones that were later connected to the twelve zodiac signs. Another (even older) origin is found in Hindu astrology, where a certain stone was worn based on astrological concerns or health issues. These were also later connected to the Gregorian calendar.

In Chinese culture, the approach to birthstones is a bit different than we have discussed previously. In this tradition, the seven days of the week are represented by stones. This can also be seen in Thai history. Of course, each cultural background has different sets of gemstones and traditions that go with them. This results in many months having multiple corresponding stones.
